HERNANDEZ-RAMIREZ, Porfirio e FORRELLAT-BARRIOS, Mariela. Advantages of cell therapy with bone marrow derived mononuclear cells using the entire mononuclear fraction. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.4, pp. 407-412. ISSN 0864-0289.
In the bone marrow (BM) there is a heterogeneous group of adult stem cells formed not only by hematopoietic stem cells but also by a set of non-hematopoietic stem cells. Studies in animal models of diabetic neuropathy or ischemic heart disease, made it evident the effectiveness of BM derived mononuclear cells (BM-MNC) applied as a whole in the control of these alterations. The use of peripheral blood MNC (PB-MNC) has also been effective in animal models of diabetic neuropathy or ischemic limbs. In our practice a simplified method for obtaining PB-MNCs has been introduced and the alternative of using the entire mononuclear fraction for regeneration of damaged tissues has been progressively increasing increased in Cuba with very promising results without need of immunophenotyping stem cells and monitoring their use only by the number of mobilized cells and the absolute number of MNC present in the final concentrate to be used.
