FUENTES-AYALA, Eridalia et al. Therapeutic use of adult stem cells in periodontal diseases. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.4, pp. 419-425. ISSN 0864-0289.
Periodontitis is a set of inflammatory diseases of bacterial origin affecting the tissues of the periodontium and provoking the destruction of the tissues that surround and support the teeth. The aim of this article is to report the results obtained with the implantation of stem cells to regenerate the osseous tissue. A case of a 27 year-old male patient is presented. An implant of autologous-adult-haematopoietic stem cells mobilized to the peripheral blood with granulocyte colonies stimulating factor was performed in osseous defects provoked by the disease at the left posterosuperior sector, seven days after a conventional periodontal flap. Gums acquired normal characteristics seven days after implantation; at 12 months a bone neoformation and an increase of osseous density were observed and a reduction in the number of periodontal pockets and its deepening was obtained. The use of flap technique together with cell implantation showed satisfactory results.
