In our country, as in many others, pregnancy is more frequent among the youngest women with the already known risks and complications for health. A descriptive and prospective study was carried out at the "Tamara Bunke" North Maternity Hospital, in Santiago de Cuba, from September, 1996, to April, 1997, aimed at analyzing the psychological state in a group of adolescents before the induction of abortion. To this end, they were interviewed a few minutes before to collect some variables necessary for the research. It was observed a predominance of single women aged 16-17 and with a gestational age from 10 to 12 weeks. Most of them had no history of previous induced abortions and it was very significant that among the causes leading to the induced abortion were that they did not want any children and that they wished to continue studying. The most known contraceptive methods were the condom and the oral tablets, whereas the commonest sources of information were the mass media, friends and family nurses and physicians. Anxiety and fear prevailed among the answers about the psychologial state.
