The authors of this review are aimed at arousing the interest of ophtalmologists- specially those involved in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma patients- in learning the genetic advances of this disease. Genetic knowledge on adult primary open-angle glaucoma, juvenile-onset primary open-angle glaucoma, and primary congenital glaucoma are updated, and tables summarizing the genetic updating of glaucoma and the listing of monogenic syndromes in which glaucoma is an important characteristic of their clinical pictures are presented.
