CUADRA, R; ORTEGA, J; SOTO, L e ZAYAS VAZQUEZ, María de los A. EFFECT OF DAZOMET TO CONTROL ROOT-KNOT NEMATODES IN CUCUMBER PRODUTION UNDER SHELTERED CROP SYSTEM. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.1, pp. 57-61. ISSN 2224-4697.
The cucumber species (Cucumis sativus) grown under sheltered crop conditions has been attacked by pests and diseases affecting its yields. Root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) has become one of the main pests of this crop in this production technology. Diverse alternatives have been used to manage this pest under sheltered crop system with positive results. To find new control methods under the Cuban climatic conditions, the effect of Dazomet (3,5 dimethyl tetrahydro _2-tio-2h 1.3.5 thiadiazine), powder formulation at 98%, synthesized and produced in Cuba, was evaluated by the National Research Institute of Sugarcane Products. The application of Dazomet, at a dose of 400 kg.ha-1, reduced the degree and infestation index of the root-knot nematode population, Meloidogyne incognita from 3,3 and 56 % to 0,67 and 13,3%, respectively, with significant differences with the untreated control but with no significant differences with the chemical control (Basamid). Cucumber plant growth and fruit production also significantly increased in the first month after sowing when compared with the untreated control. These results show that Basamid, which is a product imported from Bayer, Germany, can be substituted by Dazomet of national production.
