DELGADO-PADRON, Javier et al. Distribution of sugarcane ratoon stunting disease (Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli) in Cuba. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.1, pp. 00-00. ISSN 2224-4697.
The objective of this work was to determine the presence of Leifsonia xyli subsb xily in commercial cultivars and genotypes of the sugarcane germ plasm collection in Cuba. The sugarcane samples collected in commercial plantations of 13 sugar mills and at the Germ plasm collection of the Experimental Station of Sugarcane Research of Matanzas, Cuba. They were tested for the presence of the bacterium by tissue-blot enzyme immunoassay, and the percentage of infected plants was calculated. L. xyli was present in 74.3 % of the commercial cultivar and in 29% of the analyzed genotypes of the Germ plasm collection. The cultivars with the highest incidence of the bacterium in the commercial plantations sampled were SP70-1284, CP52-43, C87-51, C90-469, C86-56, C88-380, and C86-12, while it was not present in C132-81, C85-102, C87-252, andC86-531. These results showed the need to extend samplings to other sugar mills and cultivars as a way to establish measures for the disease management to reduce its percentages of presence and distribution, besides avoiding the lost of tolerance or resistance of the genotypes of the Germ plasm collection with the best performance, which guarantees the genetic variability of the cultivars obtained by the improvement program of plants
