A prospective descriptive study was performed in the "Ana Betancourt de Mora" Gyneco-Obstetric Teaching Hospital on perinatal morbimortality in 601 diabetic pregnant women or with the risk of presenting a gestational diabetes, during the period from January 1987 to December 1995. A survey was elaborated with maternal and newborn variables. Data were processed in an IBM microcomputer consistent with MICROSTAT statistical system. Chi-squared and proportion tests were used. Tables with probability for its demonstration were selected. The treatment followed for pregnant women establishes a rigid metabolic control with strict calculation of diet, insuline treatment in those that need it and checking up of blood glucose levels for obtaining results close to normoglycemia. Subgroup A of Priscilla White Classification grouped 81,68% of pregnant women and 100% was evaluated as good maternal-fetal prognosis. 39% of those women had their metabolic control with diet and 39% did it with the administration of 15 to 30 units of insuline. 51,2% of newborns resulted from eutocic deliveries and they were depressed at birth, 27 at the first minute and 7 continued depressed at 5 minutes according to Apgar Score Assessment.
