DELGADO VEGA, Mirtha et al. Ventricular geometric patterns in the essential arterial hypertension. AMC [online]. 2003, vol.7, n.3, pp. 275-285. ISSN 1025-0255.
With the aim of knowing the frequency of ventricular geometric patterns in patients with essential arterial hypertension, a descriptive study at " Carlos Juan Finlay" was carried out, within the period from nov 1999 to april 2001. The universe was composed of 4140 patients a simple randomized sample of 321 was taken. Primary source of data consisted in a survey designed for this purpose which contained variables such as: age groups, sex, color of the skin, weigth, sige, index of body mass, body surface, time of disease evolution, classification of hypertensive according to terminal figures, risk factors of hypertension, electrocardiographic and study. Data were automatically processed. Results showed that the geometric pattern more frequent was concentric remodelation, age group of 46 to 59 years prevailed, femenine sex, white skin nutritional state and overweigth; at the same time of arterial hypertension increased, cardiac remodelling stages deteriorated existing a higher frecuency of patients with moderate arterial hypertension. Echocardiography resulted to be the diagnostic method more effective in relation to the electrocardiographic study.
