A study was carried out to characterize patients deceased for metastatic cancer of primary unknown origin during the quinquennium 1998-2002 in Manuel Ascunce Provincial Hospital of Camagüey. The universe rose to 57 deceased. The main symptoms were mainly visceral (61, 4 %), among them liver (40, 4 %) and lung (31, 7 %); desides bone (22, 8 %) and brain (15, 8 %). The primary site of cancer was known during necropsy in the 86 %, located fundamentally in pancreas, stomach, prostate, kidney and colon. The adenocarcinoma moderately differentiated represented the most frequent histologic variant. Survival in the majority of theses patients did not surpass the 12 months.
