GARCIA LOPEZ, Arilia et al. Estudio toxicogenético de un polisacárido del gel de Aloe vera L. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2001, vol.6, n.2, pp. 52-55. ISSN 1028-4796.

The authors present the results obtained on assessing the toxicogenetic potential of a polysaccharide freeze-dried, previously dyalised, obtained from Aloe vera L. gel in 2 short-term assay systems by using an in vitro model: the Salmonella/microsome system (Ames), and another in vivo: the micronucleus induction assay in mouse bone marrow. In the assay of Ames, we tested TA 100, TA 98, TA 1535 and TA 1537 strains of Salmonella typhimurium with and without metabolic activation (S9) within a concentration range of 50, 150, 500 and 1 500 µg/plate. In the micronucleus induction assay, we tested doses of 500, 1 000 and 2 000 mg/kg of body weight. The results obtained showed that the polysaccharide from Aloe gel was not mutagenic in the Salmonella/microsome system. No genotoxic response was observed in the doses studied in the in vivo assay.
