MARINE ALONSO, María de los Ángeles; GARCIA MELIAN, Maricel; TORRES ROJO, Yisel  e  VAZQUEZ PALAU, Mercedes. Comparison of data from the environmental surveillance and from neighbour group to prevent dengue fever. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2007, vol.45, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3003.

This paper showed the results of data comparison about environmental problems that contribute to the appearance of Aedes aegypti breeding sites, obtained by local community groups of the People`s Council Number 1 at “ Efraín Mayor” health area of Cotorro municipality, City of Havana province, Cuba , and by Campaign for Vectors Control workers as part of the integrated surveillance system for the prevention and control of dengue fever. Environmental d ata was taken in the course of phases 69th and 76th of the Campaign for Vectors Control . There was a low matching percentage between the report of environmental data in the study of “A” worker of the Campaign for Vectors Control and that of local groups was found. The lowest correspondece percentage was for hazardous water leakages (11,1 %), followed by unauthorized waste disposal microdumping (15 %). There was a higher coincidence of both reports in non-sanitized waste grounds (48,4 %). The percentages of blocks with non-sanitized waste grounds and the number of hazardous water leakages and unauthorized waste disposal microdumps decreased during the period of study. The results obtained demonstrated the importance of community participation to support the surveillance of environmental determinants in the emergence of Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding sites at Cotorro municipality.

Palavras-chave : Community participation; dengue; environmental surveillance.
