ABRIL SALTOS, Ricardo Vinicio; LOPEZ TORRES, Anabel Carolina e REYES MERA, Jorge Julio. Influence of canopy and understory on soil loss through runoff in enhancement forest. riha [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.2, pp. 17-28. ISSN 1680-0338.
Colonization processes generate changes in the tropical rainforest of the Ecuadorian Amazon, and drives the need to know the levels of soil loss, so this research evaluates the characteristics of canopy and understory in this problem. The results showed that plots with more coverage level of understory and canopy had less runoff and nutrient loss. Runoff water presented negative correlation between precipitation and concentrations of total nitrogen, phosphate, electrical conductivity, temperature, nitrite, nitrate and potassium. They reported less soil loss in plots with more coverage of understory and better infiltration with higher canopy coverage. It is concluded that the soil covered with understory affects runoff, nutrient and sediment loss and increased canopy cover improves infiltration.
