Introduction: People grow old every day more and more. When the surgical procedure is discussed in the case of an elderly obviously appears the chronological and biological barrier. In third age the survival is not everything and thus the life expectancy is logically limited making that the quality of life be more value. Objective: To determine the anesthetic morbidity and mortality of elderly undergoing a cholecystectomy by laparoscopy elective surgery. Method: A longitudinal and prospective study was conducted in 104 patients during a period of 36 months. Orotracheal general anesthesia was administered with induction of 0,05 mg/kg midazolam, 3-5 mg/kg thiopental or 2,5 mg/kg 0,1 mg/kg/dose propofol and vecuronium bromide. PAM, FC and ECG behavior was assessed as well as the intraoperative analgesic requirements. All patients were classified according to ASA. Results: Extreme ages were 60 and 62 years (x = 72 years). The was predominance of female sex in all ages (94,2%). The more frequent coexisting diseases were the cardiovascular ones (40.3%), EPOC, asthma and chronic bronchitis associated with smoking. There were cardiovascular intraoperative complications (57.6%). Most of intraoperative complications (69.5%) were present after the first hour. In postoperative period there was predominance of nauseas, vomiting and pain. Conclusions: Age wasn't a surgical limitation.
