Introduction: patients suffering temporomandibular joint disorders have increased in number and about 25 million persons have some sign or symptom referring to this entity actually. Etiology is multicausal and some of causes may be occlusal, psychological factors, extrinsic trauma, and bad habits like bite and bend object into the oral cavity, unilateral chewing and sleeping position among others. Objective: to identify temporomandibular joint disorders in patient treated in Dentistry Clinic "Vista al sol Norte" belonging to Caroní Municipality, Bolivar State, Venezuela. Material and Methods: retrospective and descriptive trial was performed including patient belonging to Caroní Municipality, Bolivar State during the period November 2005- August 2006. From all patient treated during this period were random selected 100 clinic records and were assessed, age, gender, clinical expression and prosthesis necessities. Descriptive summary statistics of variables were used to quantitative variables and percentage to qualitative variables. Variable´s associations were try to prove through Chi-square and percentage independent samples comparison test. Results: temporomandibular joint disorder was more frequent in female; the age group most affected was between 31 and 40 years old. It is necessary prosthesis for this disorder. Conclusion: it is evident that temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) affects more the female gender and in both sex the highest frequency is between the 21 and 40 years old. Trauma and accident were the most frequent cause of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in female sex as well as the tooth lost is in the male gender.
