The insufficient participation of parents in school education constitutes a fundamental problem of the current Mexican educational model. In this article, the theoretical foundations and the results of an exploratory study developed with the aim of investigating the causes of the educational problem mentioned above are presented. As a methodology, the questionnaire and the interview technique were used. Finally, an approach is made to the causes that are limiting the participation of parents in the school process as an essential aspect to solve the problem investigated
