The objective of the study was to determine if the influence of a longer rest time between series of exercises improves muscle strength and hypertrophy. A quasi-experimental longitudinal study with a quasi-control group was carried out for 6 weeks in a group of 20 people (15 men, 5 women) with an age of 28.50 ± 5.74 years; who had been training for more than 6 months. Muscle hypertrophy was evaluated through anthropometric measurements with the help of the InBody 270, strength through the 1RM test, in three muscle groups (arms, chest, legs) through a series of exercises for each one (Biceps Curl, Chest Press, Leg Press) performed twice a week, in the experimental group a rest period of 3 minutes and control group 1 minute. Differences were found in the measurements of the experimental group (fat percentage p:0.027, contracted biceps p:0.027: relaxed biceps p:0.001, chest strength p:0.001, legs: 0.04) in relation to the control group. It is concluded that modifying the rest time of 3 minutes between series of exercises with a load of 70% of the 1RM if there is a difference in the increase in strength and muscle hypertrophy.
