The paper summarizes the studies on the enhancement of the intercultural competence in foreign languages in order to conceive a conceptual framework for its development in the teaching learning process of English in Cuban schools. The article points out the importance of this component of the communicative competence, provides a definition of intercultural competenceand characterizes its dimensions and indicators. The methods employed to carry out the research are also described.
