The paper deals with the role the discipline English Linguistic Studies plays in encouraging the research competence of English as a foreign language teachers. It tackles the foundations of this process in the Cuban context, suggests and illustrates different types of activities that aim at fostering this vital component of their future professional practice and offers general recommendations for the implementation of the activities.
