GARCIA GONZALEZ, Isabel; MIGON GODINEZ, Rosa María  e  SILVEIRA CARRASCO, Caridad. Some of Enrique José Varona's educational ideas about Pedagogy. Varona [online]. 2022, n.75  Epub 02-Dez-2022. ISSN 1992-8238.

Positivist conceptions allowed Enrique José Varona (1845-1933) to focus the emphasis of his transformations on science without abandoning the teaching of humanistic sciences, thus substituting verbalism for experimentation under the motto of "seeing, meditating and observing nature more". In his opinion, education could constitute an unsurpassable instrument of social homogenization that would make it possible to partially minimize the great social differences existing among men. For this reason, he was opposed to any type of social exclusion or discrimination in the educational and cultural life of the people. The Cuban thinker, more than any other positivist of that generation, sometimes left positivism behind in the pedagogical field to trust in human possibilities and in their improvement through education and other social mechanisms that would have repercussions, in the long run, in the remarkable improvement of morality. The present work aims to value the contribution of Enrique José Varona's educational ideas to Pedagogy in order to contribute to higher levels of quality in the pedagogical professional performance.
