GUTIERREZ HERRERA, Raúl F.; ORDONEZ AZUARA, Yeyetsy G.  e  HARTMANN NAVA, Julia. Quality of life in the elderly in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and its Metropolitan Area. Varona [online]. 2023, n.76  Epub 30-Mar-2023. ISSN 1992-8238.

Population aging in Mexican society is an undeniable fact. The quality of life of the elderly population is a significant component in successful aging, so it is important to identify the sociodemographic factors that affect it. This study describes them in the population of older adults in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and its Metropolitan Area and specifies their effects on the quality of life by means of face-to-face or telephone surveys to 100 older adults over 60 years of age, inhabitants of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and its Metropolitan Area, who attended the Department of Family Medicine of the University Hospital "Dr. Jose Eleuterio Gonzalez". Two questionnaires were applied: one of clinical and demographic characteristics and the WHOQOL-OLD, the dimensions were compared and it was found that Dimension 4: Participation/Social Isolation is the one related to sociodemographic factors. The relationship of quality of life with marital status, metabolic diseases, sex, among others, was also determined. After identifying the sociodemographic factors that negatively impact the perception of the quality of life of older adults, it is possible to promote specific programs and strategies for affected older adults and the geriatric population in general.
