GARCIA-SALGADO, Mónica de la Caridad e BATISTA-ESTUPINAN, Yenia. From labor to economic insertion: Spaniards in mining sector of eastern Cuba (1902-1924). Min. Geol. [online]. 2021, vol.37, n.3, pp. 359-375. Epub 30-Set-2021. ISSN 1993-8012.
This article is an approach to the role of the Spaniard immigrant in the mining sector, in the former province of Oriente between 1902 and 1924. The article explains the two moments lived by Spaniard immigrants during their passage through this part of the country: the incorporation to work in order to achieve an occupation, which would allow them to achieve the purpose for which they immigrated; and the insertion as an investor in the economic activity. The press of that time, specialized bibliography, and documentary sources located in the Historical Archive of Santiago de Cuba province were consulted. Methods such as analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive, hermeneutical and triangulation sources were applied. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that their presence in this area was elevated as day laborers but not as investors as they responded to a process of capital diversification to increase their profits, but not to an interest in developing production.
