HERRERA SUAREZ, Miguel et al. Study of the accuracy of Duncan and Chan hyperbolic model in the prediction of the stress strain relationship of three Cuban clay soils. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.4, pp. 24-29. ISSN 2071-0054.
The method of finite elements (FEM) it has been broadly used in the simulation of the soil mechanical response. The central nucleus of the mathematical support that sustains this method is the constitutive models, inside these, that of Ducan and Chan it is one of those most used ones, for what the present work has as objective to determine the accuracy in the prediction of the relationship stress-strain of three cuban clay (Oxisol; Inceptisol; Vertisol). To execute this objective the mechanical properties of the soil are determined and the constitutive equations are implemented in the software Mathcad 14. The results show that the model possesses a great capacity to predict with accuracy the relationship stress-strain of the studied soils, when they exhibit a plastic failure, however when the soils fails in a fragile way, the model shows inability to predict the changes of tensions originated product of the deformation for softening or hardening.
