MENDOZA OTERO, Jency Niurka; BELTRAN ALONSO, Haens e VAZQUEZ CEDENO, Silvia. A comparative study of the oral sources role in the professionalization of historians. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2015, vol.7, n.3, pp. 12-18. ISSN 2218-3620.
Universities must respond to the demands of society in the training process, what requires a constant monitoring nowadays. Research is used to describe the current situation and being able to respond to changes. Such researches, sometimes, present as a result not a new theory, but the application of an existing one. The comparative method allows to find theories and practices in other contexts that can be applied to solve native problems. The authors of the article have as major aim to compare the development and pedagogical implementation of oral sources worldwide. From the study of the European and American context, it can be assumed that oral sources have proved their worth in the research and teaching of history. The rescue of the recent past through oral sources is presented in many cases as the only way of realization. In the Cuban educational context, and specifically in higher education, the value of oral sources is not yet recognized. Treating these as sources of historical knowledge in the training of historians in Cuba is not a successful practice, since teaching is lineal; the student listens and learns what the teacher offers from his/her experience. Research by means of oral sources makes easy the professionalization of teachers at all levels, especially at the university; as demonstrated in the study of these practices worldwide.
