The insertion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the educational landscape is a milestone in educational models, favoring distance learning that requires innovative ways of teaching, assigning roles and roles that mean them as tutor on -line. However, there are still limitations and dissatisfaction due to lack of knowledge in the adoption of virtual learning environments (EVA), which motivated this study with the objective of epistemological updating of the role of the virtual tutor. The methodological strategy basically responds to a descriptive study of bibliographical review, is systematized through empirical research methods: scientific observation, hermeneutics and documentary analysis, which together with the theoretical: analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive allowed to update the knowledge about the performance of the virtual tutor; as well as to determine the main technological tools used, benefits and disadvantages in the e-learnig. Although ICTs tend towards distance learning and autonomous learning, their impact on the formation of social values must be evaluated given the student's propensity for social isolation, an aspect to be taken into account as a field of study.
