LANDA-BLANCO, Miguel. Predictors of impulsive buying: attitudes towards money, debt, irrational happiness, materialism, and sustainable consumption in Honduras. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.6, pp. 404-413.  Epub 30-Dez-2022. ISSN 2218-3620.

The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to Impulsive Buying, explicitly identifying the role of peoples' Attitudes toward Money and Debt, Irrational Happiness, Materialistic Values, and Sustainable Consumption Behaviors. This was achieved using a quantitative methodology, with a non-experimental transversal design. Data was collected through online questionnaires answered by Hondurans. The sample size was 242 participants. Results indicate that subjects with higher scores in Attitudes towards Debt and Money (low financial control), Irrational Happiness, and Materialistic Values, have a higher tendency toward Impulsive Buying. On the other hand, Sustainable Consumption Behaviors are a protective factor, diminishing Impulsive Buying scores. These accounted for 50% of the variance in Impulsive Buying scores. The findings are discussed in light of previous research and their implications for the field of behavioral economics.

Palavras-chave : impulsive buying; debt; irrational happiness; materialism; sustainable consumption behavior.
