CESPEDES PANDURO, Bernardo. Social Factors of Gender Violence in Peru. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.2 Epub 01-Ago-2023. ISSN 2308-0132.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 5 are to promote good health and well-being and achieve gender equality, respectively. Successful progress towards these goals requires an understanding of the laws that protect women from all forms of domestic violence. The objective was to identify which social factors had the greatest influence on gender-based violence and its dimensions (physical violence, sexual violence, and psychological violence). Another dimension of gender violence is economic violence; however, it was not taken into account for the present study because it is not one of the variables of the ENDES. Data from the 19290 women from the 2020 Demographic and Family Health Survey of Peru were used. The results when applying binary logistic regression show a statistically significant relationship between the independent variables (factors) used in the present analysis with gender violence and its dimensions. Male dominance, decision-making power, attitude towards violence, alcohol consumption, history of abuse against women are shown as risk factors and the fact that women do not work all year round is shown as a protective factor in predicting gender-based violence. Therefore, empowerment of women reduces the incidence of gender-based violence.
