ROJAS RODRIGUEZ, Reidel et al. Acquired Toxoplasma gondii infection in the pediatric population from Villa Clara province. Acta méd centro [online]. 2021, vol.15, n.3, pp. 389-400. Epub 30-Set-2021. ISSN 2709-7927.
Introduction:
the toxoplasmosis is a disease, caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii; it can be congenital or acquired and it has a wide worldwide distribution.
Objective:
to describe the characteristics of the infested pediatric patients by Toxoplasma gondii whish were diagnosed at the “José Luis Miranda” Pediatric University Hospital from Villa Clara Province.
Methods:
it was made a transversal character descriptive study to a sample of 54 patients which were diagnosed with Toxoplasma gondii infection in the period from January 2014 to December 2016.
Results:
54 patients who were diagnosed, 61.1% belonged to female sex and the 72.2% were from rural zones and they had been in contact with infected animals.
Conclusion:
the acute acquired toxoplasmosis in the pediatric population from Villa Clara Province showed a high proportion at its systematic form, with a superiority in adolescents and in females from rural zones, and complications at the diagnosis with the ocular form. It is recommended the development of studies about the parasite - environment - susceptible host interaction that would allow to give answers to the main epidemiologic factors which influence the acquisition of the disease.
