The protocol used at the "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine and its Intermediate Care Unit to give attention to patients suffering from ischemic cerebrovascular disease in acute phase is presented. It is based on the experience accumulated with 832 patients. The guidelines and recommendations offered have been rigorously appraised according to the results of the application of the protocol in the institution, and to the standards and suggestions taken from the international medical bibliography for making decisions.
