The world faces the challenge of improving food systems and ensuring safe and healthy food for all. Currently, the global vulnerability of those systems and the need to make them more equitable, sustainable and resilient in order to feed nutritionally and sustainably millions of people on the planet has become evident. Promoting health, safety and nutrition; preventing and controlling zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance and protecting farmers' livelihoods from the effects of plant and animal diseases; as well as ensuring sustainable agricultural practices, is an essential element in the radical transformation of agri-food systems. One of the tools that can help address these threats is the application of the One Health approach.
