FERRER CAIRO, Alejandra. Rethinking Memory. Reinterpretation of Electra Myth in Jardín de héroes, by Yerandy Fleites Pérez. UH [online]. 2023, n.297  Epub 10-Fev-2023. ISSN 0253-9276.

Belonging to the saga of the Atridas, the myth of Electra has become one the most relevant in world literature. More than half a century later since Electra Garrigó of Virgilio Piñera, a new rewriting of the myth turned up. We are referring to Jardín de héroes (2007) by the playwright Yerandy Fleites Pérez. This piece, together to Antígona (2005), Un bello sino (2005) -a free version of Medea myth-, and Ifigenia (tragedia ayer) (2015) complete the Pueblo Blanco tetralogy. Both the investigation about the hero and family relationships (fundamental thematic guidelines), as well as the aesthetic and contemporany concerns of the playwright, reach in Jardín de héroes their maximum expression and the decisive point in the tetralogy. The purpose of this research is to analyze how Fleites Pérez brings up to date the myth of Electra in his work. He establishes a complex intertextual relationship of emulation and renovation, enriching the main hypotexts with several comteporany sourcesand taking into consideration the context in which the theatre piece is developed.
