FERNANDEZ CHERKASOVA, Lilia; DIAZ ZAYAS, Niurka  e  GUEVARA RODRIGUEZ, Ised María. Study of risk factors in the stroke at "Dr. Carlos J. Finlay" Teaching Polyclinic. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3038.

The present article reports the results of an analytical study conducted in Marianao aimed at establishing the relation between certain risk factors and stroke. The sample, which was composed of 82 patients with stroke and the control group, that was made up of 82 patients without stroke, were selected starting from the family medical histories. Data were completed with a questionnaire created to this end. The collected information was subjected to a multivariable logistic regression analysis. The frequency of certain risk factors was compared between the 2 groups, and it was proved that the frequency of smoking, the family and personal pathological history of stroke, arterial hypertension, ishcemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus, dislipidemia and obesity was higher in those suffering from stroke. A statistically significant association of stroke with arterial hypertension and obesity was obtained. The absence of obesity behaved as a protective factor. The stroke frequency increased with age and prevailed in black male patients.
