A descriptive quantitative and qualitative study was conducted in 2 educational centers of 10 de Octubre municipality in order to characterize the behavior of the students in relation to alcohol during the different stages of adolescence. The information was obtained by doing a survey and using the focal group technique. The results showed that the predominant behavior was the normal consumption of alcoholic beverages in both stages and that it varied according to the stage. An increase was observed in the last stage. The level of information about alcoholism is predominantly sufficient in the adolescents, although it is generally insufficient in the first stage. The psychosocial risk factors connected with alcohol consumption in both stages are the following: inadequate patterns of education as regards the normal behavior with alcohol, imitation or group contagion, poor self-esteem, deficient level of information in relation to the excessive consumption of alcohol and the lack of recreational choices.
