CORONA MARTINEZ, Luis A e FONSECA HERNANDEZ, Mercedes. La toma de decisiones médicas y su formación como habilidad profesional. Educ Med Super [online]. 2003, vol.17, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 0864-2141.
An exploratory study was conducted by surveying a sample of internees, basic general physicians and professors from the disciplines of the clinical cycle of the medical career in order to determine their perception about the decision making as a professional ability and its formation during the career. All the students, professionals and professors considered it as an essential ability. 3 out of 4 students and 4 out of 5 physicians expressed that the career did not prepare them to make decisions about the patients, whereas 40 % of the professors said that the knowledge of this ability at the end of the career was deficient. The students and physicians thought that this ability should play a more relevant role in the educational process. 80 % of the professors stated the need to adopt a specific strategy for it. The importance of the decision making as a necessary ability for the professional practice, its doubtful formation during the medical career due to the limitations existing in the teaching-educative process, and the convenience of applying a strategy directed to the formation of this ability were stressed. It was recommended the introduction of the decision-making into the system of abilities of the medical career.
