A descriptive study with epidemiological scope at Amalia Simoni Hospital of Camagüey city was carried out, it was included the total of patients with diagnosis of meningoencephalitis who were statistical reported in a consecutive way in the period from June 1st 1995 to December 31 st, 2002. The following variables were included: type of meningoencephalitis, year of occurrence, sex, age, antimeningococic vaccination received and evolution of discharge. A total of 251 patients with diagnosis of meningoencephalitis in the stage of 8 years in adults from 15 to 82, corresponded to viral etiology thee 73,30 % of cases and a plain tend to reduction of those of bacterial etiology. There was prevalence of the masculine sex and the higher frequency of presentation occurred in the age group among 25 to 63 years. Although approximately only a third part of the sick patients were to confirm to have received the antimeningococcic vaccine before the acquisition alive, represented an important step in the reduction of mortality for this entity.
