To scientifically validate the antispasmodic activity of Piper auritum H.B.K., an essential oil 1 % was prepared to be evaluated in a model of jejunum spontaneous motility, isolated from rabbit at concentrations of 2, 3 and 5 mg/mL against different spasmogens (barium chloride 200, acetylcholine 0,06 and histamine 0,05 mg/10-3 mL) in guinea pig ileum with values of 1, 2 and 3 mg/mL. Papaverine was used in concentrations of 0,0033; 0,0066 and 0,013 mg/mL. Thanks to the results obtained it was possible to state that this plant has a spasmodic activity on intestinal smooth muscle.
