NAPOLES SMITH, Raúl de Jesús; BROSSARD ALEJO, Julio S; RODRIGUEZ HERRERA, Ernesto  e  DEARRIBA ROMANIDI, Manuel. Neurological-anesthetic assessment of patients with cranioencephalic trauma at a pediatric intensive care unit. MEDISAN [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.9, pp. 1-9. ISSN 1029-3019.

A cross-sectional, descriptive, and retrospective study of 45 patients under 15 years of age, who were hospitalized at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit from the Teaching Southern Children's Hospital in Santiago de Cuba with cranioencephalic trauma diagnosis and surgically treated due to this condition, was carried out from January, 2005 to June, 2009. Results were as follows: this kind of injury prevailed in children aged 5-10 years, children under 4 years of age died to a greater extent, and lower score of Glasgow Coma Scale was consistent with the worst post-operative results. An adequate neurological anesthetic control contributed to a decreased morbidity and mortality in the case material, and to a low delay between the developed condition and the surgical treatment.
