The intensity of electric and magnetic fields generated by heaters which use the radiofrequency technique was determined. It was observed that the time of exposure of the workers to the risk factors studied was not higher than 50 % of the working day; females are predominant among the operators. It is concluded that the sealers studied may generate electromagnetic values which are higher than the permissible values taken as reference. This influence is limited to an area close to the source. The generation of non-ionizing radiation is ruled out.
