Introduction: Hemodialysis procedure is influenced by many hospital animated and inanimate environmental factors. The aim of present paper was to design a tool to identify the environmental dangers in hemodialysis units. Methods: A checking list for identification of environmental dangers in hemodialysis units from the data collection guides, of document review and of the observation of environmental features applied in a project developed in National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology to their characterization. Results:The checking list covered elements from environmental conditions, procedures, human resources and equipment and it was applied to 3 hemodyalisis units. Conclusions: The above mentioned proposed list allows assessing the association among the dangerous environmental factors and the appearance of complications in patients under hemodialysis treatment and to contribute to identification of environmental features to carry out the danger management in each unit.
