This article proposes a method for the formation of professional competences in the students of the major Professional and Technical Education (PTE) which belongs to the field of Informatics. The scientific novelty of this article is the establishment of the combination of instructional and educational actions through the connection of teaching and the work component. From the theoretical perspective, the study is based in the formation of professional competences approach, as well as in the principles of the didactics of the PTE. A quantitative pre-experimental research based on a cross-sectional study was carried out. Methods such as: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, review of the national and foreign scientific literature, observation of the students' performance, the pedagogical pre-experiment, the chi square test with a 95,0 % confidence interval, were used. The sample was formed by 30 students of PTE of the polytechnical center Calixto García, in the province Holguín, Cuba. The study concludes that introducing the method contributes to improve the teaching performance of the students of this specialty from a more comprehensive approach in correspondence with their social responsibility.
