The present article reveals the high richness of the philosophical conceptualization displayed by the Cuban teacher of the 9th century José de la Luz y Caballero in notes 21 to 31 of his book Impugnación a las doctrinas filosóficas de Víctor Cousin (Objection to the philosophical doctrines of Victor Cousin). The work analyzes the position of Luz on the criteria of eclecticism about knowledge and consciousness, to confuse students; it examines the role of experiment and observation as foundations of the study of man; it explains the refutation of the spiritual view on consciousness as a procedure or method; it also argues the inconvenience of the use of the 1829 Course as a textbook. The aim of the article is to analyze the process of systematization of the set of concepts developed in the commentaries to the notes under study in his book, in dealing with various gnoseological, methodological, anthropological, psychological, theological problems, and especially the critique of eclecticism.
