This study responds to the need to enhance the process of university learning based on research. The objective of the research is to determine the investigative competencies in the professional training of teachers at the Catholic University of Cuenca, Azogues campus, through the generation of hierarchical conglomerates (clusters), which establish the possible investigative profiles of teachers. The research is non-experimental, has a mixed epistemological approach and reaches the exploratory, descriptive and multivariable correlational levels of the transectional cohort. For the collection of information, techniques such as documentary review and the survey of university teachers were used. The results establish three investigative clusters, each with its own characteristics and competencies that prevail.
