The following panel is the result of a discussion held as part of the doctoral research of one of the authors. In a markedly globalized era, with public policies that must rapidly seek to subvert the harmful and structuring effects of neoliberalism, the social sciences are compelled to rethink their contribution, to sharpen their sphere of social action, as well as universities and educational spaces in general. These pages bring together an important group of experts who, although from different geographical origins and cognitive backgrounds, address the same challenges and reposition communication as a strategic task for Latin American societies. Reflecting on the case of Ecuador is just the pretext for important communicologists and professors to structure their assessments on topics so scarcely approached from the gray literature and indexed scientific production such as the relationship between university media and education at social and community level in our countries; links and debts with local development; agents and actors to be involved in a joint and multi-stakeholder management, starting from the realities of their own countries.
