Preliminary chemical tests for detecting aminoacids, saponins, tannins, sterols and triterpenes, cardiotonic glycosides, simple pehnols, cumarins and flavonoids (antocyanidins) were carried out in 83 vegetable parts from 39 species, 34 of them endemics, corresponding to 24 families of plants growing in Sierra de Nipe, province of Holguin. The method established by Rondina and Coussio was used with modifications. Families, genera, and species in alphabetical order, as well as the parts of plants investigated, the chemical results obtained, and the applications of each group of phytoconstituents, are shown in the tables.
