DE LA PARTE PEREZ, Lincoln. Síndrome de bajo gasto cardíaco en la tetralogía de Fallot. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2002, vol.74, n.2, pp. 132-137. ISSN 1561-3119.

A retrospective study of 200 children with Tetralogy of Fallot, who were operated on the Cardiology Center of "William Soler" University Pediatric Hospital from 1990 to 1993, was performed. There was a direct proportional relation between time of holding aorta with forceps (anoxic arrest), time of extracorporeal circulation and the development of low cardiac output syndrome. The incidence of low cardiac output in children who underwent holding of aorta with forceps for less than 30 minutes was zero, but the same procedure applied in patients for less than 60 minutes, the incidence was 23,2%(40 patients). The 24 patients that underwent long surgical procedures and holding of aorta with forceps for over an hour, the incidence of low cardiac output was 95,8%. In patients with extracorporeal circulation lasting less than 90 minutes, the incidence was only 9,75%; in extracorporeal circulation applied in children from 91 to 105 minutes, the low cardiac output syndrome occur in 15,53% of cases; the incidence was 62,5% in those who needed 106 to 120minutes of extracorporeal circulation and finally long surgical procedures brought about an incidence of 95,8%. The majority of patients showed a good response to the treatment although a small number of cases still suffered ventricular dysfunction after being treated. Seven children died in postoperatory, which represented a mortality rate of 3,5%.
