To prepare a patient in an adequate way for anesthesia is always a hard task, but to attain this goal in a child requires a careful assessment of many aspects. Generally speaking, the preparation begins with the evaluation of the medical history, the questioning and the physical examination. The study of each patient possesses an extraordinary importance. We should evaluate children on an individual basis and decide what is the best for each case. A group of considerations to be borne in mind during the pre-operative phase in children scheduled for surgery with anesthesia are set forth.
