A study of 47 patients who underwent hysterectomy during the puerperal period between May, 1989, and November, 1992, was conducted. It was made an analysis of different variables. The results were compared with the findings of other authors, and it was concluded that the highest percentage of patients that were operated on had never given birth. It was stressed the use of cesarean sections to finish deliveries. Sepsis and uterine atony were the fundamental causes of hysterectomy.
