HOMMA CASTRO, . José Luis et al. Hematological indicators, nutritional level and weight gain among malnourished pregnant women and their relationship with birth weight. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 1998, vol.24, n.2, pp. 74-79. ISSN 1561-3062.

A prospective and descriptive study of those pregnant women classified as malnourished according to Berdasco´s Cuban table and who received medical attention at the "Julio Alfonso Medina" Gynecoobstetric Hospital of Matanzas during 1994 and the first semester of 1995 was conducted. 100 patients with unique gestations, without associated disease and with a level of malnourishment below II NBP, and that had underwent the complementary biochemical tests indicated by the SISVAN for this type of patients were selected. The finding of the mean as a measure of dispersion with central trend with its minimum and maximun deviations and the multivariate analysis of main components were used as statistical procedures. It was found a relationship between the maternal gain weight and the nutritional status with the haemoglobin-haematocrit biochemical indicators and the serum iron from the third trimester. The determination of CTHF and the percentage of saturation of transferrin in these specific expectants was significant. The multifactorial analysis was mainly based on age, gestational time at term and birth weight.
