MARTINEZ GONZALEZ, Luis Raúl; VALLADARES HERNANDEZ, Marta  e  VILLATE, Jorge Luis. Analysis of the cases of premature and less than 34 weeks rupture of fetal membranes. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 1998, vol.24, n.3, pp. 145-150. ISSN 1561-3062.

There was an study of the total of patients who were hospitalized, having premature membrane rupture before 34 weeks of pregnancy in our Faculty Gynecobstetric Hospital "Justo Legón Padilla" in Pinar del Río, in the period july-december, 1997, in the Perinatal Critical Care Room. Several interesting parameters such as age, parity, risk factors, kind of work, time of pregnancy, when rupture of bags occurs, way of delivery, latency period, birth weight, Apgar and morbimortality of the new born child, were analyzed. It was evident that there were 35 cases with this affection in 5 825 births, representing a rate of 6 x 1 000 born children, and was found to be the cause of 8.5 % new born children with low birth weigth. Multiparas represented 48.5 % of cases (p < 0.05) and leuckorrhea, vaginal touch, and sexual relations were the main risk factors. It was evident, in home women, a risk 1.5 times higher than in labor women, after 30 weeks, with highly frequent deliveries by cesarean, being most of births between 1 000 and 1499 gm, and the main causes of morbility, the transitional distress and the hialine membrane when the latency period was longer than 24 hours. A low frequency of neonatal sepsis and mortality was reported.
