An ethic reflection was made on the management of severity, handicap and death in the newborns admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and on the relationship established among the medical team, the patients and the family. Suggestions are given for making complex decisions in certain situations, and in relation to the mode of acting based on ethic, scientific and humanitarian principles.
