TAMAYO LIEN, Tania e VARONA SANCHEZ, Joel. Infection caused by papillomavirus in adolescents. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2006, vol.32, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
An analytical, descriptive and retrospective study was conducted in 70 female adolescents that received attention at the outpatient department of “Ramón González Coro” Gynecoobstetric Hospital from July 2004 to July 2005. The information was obtained from the medical histories that were made in the infanto-juvenile and cervix pathology offices, respectively. Among the risk factors more related to the infection caused by human papillomavirus, it was found that sexual relations before 16 years old accounted for 88.6 %; whereas the existence of 2 sexual partners or more was proved in 72.9 %. On the other hand, 48 of our adolescents did not use condom as a barrier method to protect themselves against infection, which represents 68.6 % of the total of patients analyzed. On comparing the colposcopy result with that of biopsy, it was observed that of 50 positive colposcopies, 38 biopsies also confirmed low grade lesions. The most used treatment in our office was trichloroacetic acid 90 %. Surgery was not necessary in any of the adolescents.
